Tineke van den Berg
Inspiration
Light reveals shape, invites color to respond to color, creates space by defining front and back. To translate the emotion that I feel into lines and squares is a continuous challenge for me. While doing this, I try to stay close to my own perception without making the subject a photographic portrayal. In my work, most subjects come from my direct environment: landscapes, garden details, city views, interiors and portraits as well.
Tineke van den Berg is a Dutch artist who has woodcutting as her specialty. Her colourful and realistic work has charmed many people already; with her work, she reaches a large and enthusiastic audience.
At the Academy of Expressive Arts in Groningen, she was introduced to the phenomenon of coloured woodcuts in reduction technique. Ever since 1985, she is translating her sketches into this specific printing technique.
She is a member of the National Art Society ‘de Ploegh’ and also a member of HOLT, the collective of Northern relief printers. Between 2003 and 2006, she expressed her life on Curacao in many colourful woodcuts and watercolour paintings.
Both landscapes and city views are often the chosen subjects in her woodcuts. Besides this, she is also the creator of portraits in various techniques such as watercolour and crayon.
Her work is for sale in various galleries and at home in her studio.
